How We Make Money

Renovate QR is an independent publication that relies on multiple revenue streams to fund our operations, including hands-on testing, benchmark verification, and ongoing editorial production. These revenue streams include:

• Affiliate commissions: When you click certain links on our site and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission from the retailer at no additional cost to you. This is the primary way we fund our testing and review operations.
• Advertising: We display third-party advertisements through Google AdSense and other approved ad networks. Ad placements are clearly distinguishable from editorial content.
• Direct partnerships: On rare occasions, we may enter into sponsored content partnerships. Any such content is always clearly labeled as “Sponsored” or “Partnered” at the top of the article.

How Affiliate Links Work

Some links on Renovate QR are affiliate links. When you click one of these links and subsequently make a purchase from the linked retailer, the retailer may set a tracking cookie to attribute the sale to our site. We then receive a small percentage of the sale price as a commission.

What this does not do: Affiliate links do not change the price you pay. They do not give us access to your payment information, personal data, or purchase history. The only information we may receive is an anonymous confirmation that a qualifying purchase was made through our link.

How to identify affiliate links: Not every link on our site is an affiliate link. Links to official documentation, open-source repositories, and free tools are typically non-affiliate. Where a link leads to a paid product or service, it may be an affiliate link. We do not add affiliate parameters to links that point to free resources or community projects.

Our Editorial Independence Policy

Affiliate relationships have zero influence on our editorial decisions. This is not just a promise — it is a structural principle embedded in our workflow:

• Reviews are written before affiliate links are added. Our editorial team drafts and finalizes all reviews, comparisons, and guides without knowing which specific links will be affiliate links. Affiliate tagging is applied by a separate process after editorial sign-off.
• We never accept payment for positive coverage. No vendor or advertiser can pay us to change a rating, remove a negative finding, or secure a favorable ranking in our tools directory or leaderboard.
• Negative findings are published regardless of affiliate impact. If a tool we earn affiliate revenue from performs poorly in our tests, we publish those results. The short-term revenue loss is less important than our long-term credibility.
• Affiliate revenue does not determine which tools we review. We cover tools based on reader interest, market significance, and editorial judgment — not affiliate potential. Many of our most-read reviews are of free or open-source tools that generate no affiliate revenue.
• We update reviews when products change. If a vendor changes pricing, features, or performance after our initial review, we update the article to reflect the current state — even if the update is less favorable than the original assessment.

How Advertising Works on Our Site

We display advertisements through Google AdSense and select partner networks. These ads are served by third-party systems and are not controlled by our editorial team. Ad placement on the page is designed to be clearly distinguishable from editorial content. We do not write “advertorials” disguised as editorial content, and we clearly label any sponsored or partnered material.
